Two Or More Outdoor (TOMO) is an alternative provision to support children.
A not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), TOMO was created to benefit the community. Any profit generated is fed back into the company, to grow and develop our work.
APs have a recognition similar to schools under the Local Education Authority to provide learning services including teaching part of the curriculum. They exist to close the gap in education for children that are unable to thrive in a classroom environment.
At TOMO, we are passionate about the outdoors and helping people connect with nature. We have created TOMO to directly address the negative impact of today's world on our young people.
We believe all children should be spending two or more hours outside, to counteract the demands of screens and everyday living: Two Or More Outdoor!
By rooting education in nature, we are offering wide-open spaces, where children can breathe, settle, explore and find success. We want our children and young people to realise their true potential in a respectful and curious learning environment.
Our mission is that children leave us ready to (re)enter main stream school.
We begin by sharing the Risk Assessments and establishing the Ground Rules.
This is followed by a mindfulness activity. We then split into groups of 5 to orientate ourselves.

Through our work, we see the development of critical risk assessment skills, improved mental health and an increase in physical activity, social interactions, creativity and resilience.
These benefits are reflected through research from the National Library of Medicine supporting the need for outdoor risky play:
'Children have a natural propensity towards risky play; keeping children safe involves letting them take and manage risks.'
Our approach is built on our TOMO principles and explores a reciprocal relationship with nature - addressing personal, social, and academic needs, and developing strategies to overcome barriers to attainment.
We have high expectations and motivate pupils to learn, develop their self-confidence and engagement. We work in close partnership with school staff to help embed changes, creating further benefits for the pupil and achieve a longer-term impact.
